Last Friday was meant to be a fun day for Jake and Sean. Typically Friday afternoons are spent at our house with Alex and Daniel coming over to play. The politics of the neighborhood being what they are, Alex can't play over at Daniel's anymore. So it was to be my boys going over without Alex to Daniel's house.
Or so I thought.
To be honest I'd already screwed up a visit to Daniel's house. The kids had made plans the Friday I came back from India. Traveling half way around the world and dealing with a spider bite from Shelob, I declined them going over on the grounds that I might not be able to wake up in time to pick them up that night.
But Daniel's mom is a good sport and we rescheduled for the following weekend.
Only the boys had other plans. They told the bus driver and my sitter that they were going to my house. Because of course, Alex couldn't come over to Daniel's.
In a way I like that they are bucking what seems to me to be a rather vengeful separation of the two boys by parental politics. In another, I am not so happy. Daniel's mom was very upset at the plans changing. When I explained the boys' conspiracy she was even more upset.
"That woman! It's all about parking you know," she said.
I nodded, but thinking to myself that the feud is about way more than parking. It has been (according to Alex's mom) about the destruction of prize glass pigs, playing with a pitbull and well PARKING.
Neither have spoken to me lately, but Jake seems to think the boys are coming to my house this Friday. Hmm. Wish me luck. All I wanted was for him to have kids in the neighborhood.
