Got a chance to cuddle up with Jim last night and watch 1st episode 2nd Season Sherlock. I loved it. He enjoyed it as well. Both of us felt that while the scandal was well done, Irene Adler was over sexualized to the point where she lost some of her original character. She was good, but more effort was put at making her shocking than impressive. Still, a wonderful time to calm down and breathe.

Especially after a panic attack about the slides I sent to Japan and a character byte issue ruining my normally peaceful Sunday night.

Maybe we'll catch another episode tonight.

Jake paid much more attention at his lesson yesterday than he has in weeks. He spent his time keeping Candy from running about the corral. Candy is 20 years old, just like his usual lesson horse, Meg. The difference is Candy is a small pony (suitable for the pony express) while Meg is tall and beautiful and the slow boat to anywhere.

Not sure if Jake will get to ride Candy again as the ranch favors giving him slow horses that will not run off with him. The problem is that Jake needs a horse that presents a challenge. It helps him focus on the horse.

There are days when I think of quitting. It would be really nice to have Sundays to myself from 10:30 on. However, I remember all the anger I feel at myself for never sticking with anything swimming, ballet, jazz, even the piano. As soon as it was obvious I was not a virtuoso I and my parents agreed it should be dropped.

Jim stuck with it when it came to the piano and plays beautifully. He was in it for the cookies, but now has something to look back on as a talent. I want something for Jake as well. Riding and vaulting have given him an awesome sense of balance.

So it broke my heart a bit when he asked me, "So mom why do we do horseback riding?"

I've never told him he has disabilities. I thought it was complete shite when I saw my cousin describe her child only in terms of her illness and not in terms of her personality. So I don't say, "You've got problems." I say, "You need to focus."

And that's what I told him. That he learned to ride because he needed to learn balance and kindness to animals. That seemed to fly. No questions. No arguments. I'd have preferred a "Thank you for coming up to the land of flies and wasps every fracking week for years on end." But this will do. This will do. He is really good on the right horse. And I am really proud of him.
