India was one of those phenomenal experiences where I was alone by myself in a foreign country and I didn't mind a bit. As an only child I'm quite used to playing by myself, reading when I want to, doing as I pleased.

Spending nine hours a day in an office was a small price to pay to walk to markets by myself in the evening, watch local TV in Kanada, and answer email in a logical fashion. I missed Jim and the kids terribly in my 2-bedroom corporate apartment, but it was fun to be just me.

Not that I recommend going to sites over Tamil Nadu on your own as a small, white redhead. I was presumed to be a very wealthy American and appreciated having co-workers explain that I was nothing special. The maid that swept the apartment dressed better than I did. Silk saris in bright mauves and greens were her everyday wear. Not to mention the delicate gold jewelry.

The best I managed was a single purchase of a shalwar kameez in mauve with bright beads and gold and black piping. It even looked plain by Indian standards, but certainly brightened up my pale, colorless Lands' End (hey this doesn't show off my legs or breasts too much) wear.

And I'm left restless. I managed crossing the world half-way round. Singapore took me as close to the Equator as I've ever been. There is so much more of life I want to see before I die.
