First off let me say that I am (at the moment) without either car registered to me by the state of California. First off the CR-V is getting much needed cosmetic surgery and repairs to the radiator from the fender-bender at the Giants Game. Yes, folks they are just repairing it now. Then the van began making noises. I do not like the van to make noises because it usually heralds expensive repairs. Not the sort of thing I like to hear. To the dealer it went.

So with both cars in the shop and Jim driving our AAA approved rental, I was in the lurch to get to myself to my meeting with my boss. Typically I walk to the train, but with temps 80 by 9 AM today I felt the bike would be faster.

The bike is a heavy-set mountain bike, a gift from Jennie from a long time back.I like the wide tires and deep tread, but in event of a flat, they can well, leave you flat. If you're wondering whether to push your flat or just accept it and walk the bike, this depends on your physical stature. Do you carry a calf on your shoulders daily? Run 25 miles? No? Don't attempt to ride a flat tire to the local gas station then to do repairs. This will exhaust you and leave you sweating.

And you will still have to ride to the train station thereafter.

The one thing that delights and humbles me is the number of people on the train who helped me out. For one thing the mountain bike's tires are too fat to fit comfortably on the hooks. It takes an effort to get them on. People were willing to help me out and one lady even requested my stop for me. This is not the stereotypical transit experience. Not by a long shot.
