Photo Finish
Mar. 12th, 2012 10:05 amTen years ago, my mother found out that JC Penney's was having a photo session with a live rabbit for Easter portraits. As she was Jakob's sitter at the time, she had time to take him over to and get one of my favorite shots of him smiling and reaching for the rabbit. The rabbit pictures are motif among my cousins, but they actually own rabbits.
I've wanted to do something similarly Easterish in the way of portraits ever since. However the timing has never been right. So four years ago, Ailsa recommended her brother's girlfriend a photographer with decent rates and we hit Las Palmas park. Just the boys. I was in a few shots unwillingly because getting Sean to hold still for the camera was a trick even then. They've been some of my favorite photos ever since.
Saturday was a chance to put Jim and James in the pictures as well. This time we went to the Japanese Friendship Garden in San Jose, which is much better if you leave the front area which is dominated by the formal wedding and quincenera photos and head down towards...cosplay heaven. Sean was enchanted by a Zombie Alice and Jakob wanted to know why someone had a fox tail. I enjoyed the very San Josian feel of it all. There was even a gal in a kimono with pink hair down to her feet. At least she did a very passable impersonation of a girl, and therefore owns the gender as far as I'm concerned.
None of the photos contain any of this as far as I know. All we had to greet us for years ago in Sunnyvale was a flock of Conures. Not quite the same, and none were featured in the photos either. Hopefully neither backdrop will fade from my memory.
